Fresh Designs Revealed for Qld Faster Rail Project

Updated designs have been unveiled for two critical level crossings as part of the $5.75-billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

At Kuraby, 19km south of the Brisbane CBD, the Beenleigh Road level crossing will be replaced with a road-over-rail bridge and upgraded intersections to ease congestion and improve connection (pictured above).

Meanwhile, at Bethania, 32km south of the city centre, feedback from residents has shaped a proposal to elevate the station and rail line above Station Road, eliminating the need for a road-over-rail bridge (pictured below).

The change is expected to reduce impacts on nearby community facilities and properties while minimising disruption during construction.

Community engagement sessions have been held in both suburbs for residents to provide further input on the designs.

Updated plans for other stations and precincts along the 20km project corridor will be released progressively, the Queensland Government said, and more engagement is planned for later this year.

Site investigations are already under way, with drilling rigs, survey and noise monitoring equipment in place to inform the detailed design and construction planning, the state said.

The project, jointly funded by the Queensland and Australian governments, will remove five level crossings between Kuraby and Beenleigh, double the existing track from two to four, upgrade stations and deliver improved walking and cycling links.

The release of the updated designs follows the awarding of the design and pre-construction contract in March.

The project will double the capacity of the Gold Coast rail line and reduce waiting times at stations between Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast.

Queensland transport minister Brent Mickelberg said it was a generational investment in the state’s transport future.

He said the upgrades would connect communities, boost safety, improve traffic flow and deliver a critical enhancement to South-East Queensland’s rail network ahead of the 2032 Games.
