Fortis Wins Approval for Recut Newstead Project Crest & Walker

Fortis has secured development approval for its Newstead boutique apartment project in Brisbane’s inner north, with construction of the 20-storey Crest & Walker development in Newstead slated to start soon.

Binah has been tapped to build the project, located at 12 Kyabra Street, which will deliver 65 Bureau Proberts-designed apartments with landscaping by Arcadia.

The approval marks the latest addition to Fortis’ expanding Brisbane development pipeline, with the group increasingly active in the city as it grows its national footprint beyond its established Sydney base.

Fortis Queensland general manager Dan Boman said the project reflected the company’s design-led approach to residential development and its ambition to contribute to the evolution of Brisbane’s inner-city lifestyle precincts.

“Every Fortis project is shaped by its context, and we approach each one with the respect and care it deserves,” Boman said.

“Our focus is always on creating places that feel connected to their neighbourhood and elevate the everyday experience for residents.”

Crest & Walker will feature a contemporary brick podium softened by vertical greenery, creating a distinctive architectural expression within the evolving Newstead streetscape.

Positioned between the popular lifestyle precincts of Gasworks Plaza and James Street, the project sits within one of Brisbane’s most sought-after inner-city neighbourhoods, known for its mix of high-end retail, dining and cultural destinations.

The project will predominantly comprise large-format two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments with a car space, starting from $1.8 million, alongside three-bedroom, three-bathroom homes on the upper levels with two car spaces and views of the Brisbane skyline.

The resident amenity will centre on a rooftop communal space featuring a pool, sun lounge, barbecue facilities, and a sauna, overlooking Newstead and the CBD.

The project is the fourth active Brisbane development managed by Fortis.

Sales for Crest & Walker are scheduled to launch in May through Slaite Projects, as Fortis continues to expand its presence across South-East Queensland.
