The Queensland Government has signed a deal to release land in the south of Brisbane for a future mixed-use precinct and allow the delivery of a tennis centre expansion ahead of the Olympics.

After launching the long-term vision for the Games this month, the state has signed a deal with the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority to open up 3.3ha of land in Yeerongpilly, 9km from the Brisbane CBD.

As part of the deal, 2.3ha will be dedicated to the expansion of the Queensland Tennis Centre as part of the 2032 Delivery Plan, with the site temporarily being used as a venue for the Games.

Two adjoining parcels of land totalling over 1ha will be released to market as part of the deal.

Led by Economic Development Queensland, the release will pave the way for the development of a residential and mixed-use Yeerongpilly Green Riverside precinct.

The site is near the newly upgraded Cross River Rail Station at Yeeronpilly.

The two parcels have been earmarked for high-density, mixed-use development, be it is build-to-sell, build-to-rent, aged care, student accommodation or hotels.

Economic Development Queensland has invited developers to participate through a Request for Proposal.

EDQ wants to attract proposals for a development that would further “activate the local area and provide diverse housing solutions,” it said.

The focus would be on community integration as well as alternative housing options which could include social and affordable housing.

EDQ is aiming to identify partners who can demonstrate capability and capacity to deliver high-quality, inclusive and well-integrated residential development “in a timely manner”.

Submissions close on February 12 and construction of the new residential and mixed-use development would be expected to commence in 2027.
