The deadline for entries in the 2024 edition of The Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence is getting closer.

Since its inception, The Urban Developer awards have recognised more than 150 winners and received 1500 submissions, estabished it as a prestigious platform for the industry’s finest.
This year the awards span 24 diverse categories across Industry Excellence and Development of the Year.
Among those categories is Excellence in Community Engagement, which recognises an individual or series of initiatives and/or programs that directly engage with community stakeholders to deliver economic, social and public benefit.
Here are some of the previous winners in that category.
Codesigning Victoria’s Mental Health Beds Expansion
Nominated by Victorian Health Building Authority
The Victorian Health Building Authority responded to the Royal Commission’s report on Mental Health in Victoria and, noting the needs for more mental health beds, undertook to deliver the majority of 144 new beds across four precincts in Melbourne and Geelong in 2021.
To do this, the Victorian Health Building Authority conducted workshops and meetings with stakeholders including clinicians, consumers, architects, health services and key industry and consumer groups, and built a prototype to allow stakeholders to provide feedback.
They reworked procedures of engaging with health services that potentially caused trauma for consumers and families and allowed stakeholders to walk through a full-scale model of a room to then provide feedback before revisions.
MPavilion 2021—The Lightcatcher

The Lightcatcher was designed by Venetian architects Traudy Pelzel and Francesco Magnani of MAP studio. The seventh MPavilion in an ongoing series, the geometric, kaleidoscopic design of MPavilion 2021—The LightCatcher’—2as been envisioned as an urban lighthouse to illuminate MPavilion’s diverse program of free cultural events over that summer.
According to Pelzel: “The structure we imagine is a shimmering device that qualifies itself as an urban lighthouse that hosts and enlightens the cultural activities planned for the 2021 summer season in Melbourne ... A kaleidoscopic structure that reflects and amplifies activities, people and colours. For this reason, we call it The Lightcatcher.”
ReLove Crate of Kindness, 480 Swan Street
Nominated by Built and Charter Hall
The Crate of Kindness initiative led by ReLove and executed by Built and Charter Hall, demonstrates social responsibility, supporting women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and disadvantage.
The initiative rescues, recycles and donates furniture and household items, helping 29 families turn their houses into homes. The sustainable model focuses on supporting people in crisis, generating volunteering opportunities and rescuing furniture from landfill.
The initiative’s success lies in the collaboration among different organisations, showcasing an innovative and replicable solution to support local communities and promote social impact in the property industry.
