Spyre Wins Approval for ‘Aspirational’ Tugun Luxury Project

Luxury South-East Queensland residential developer Spyre Group has won approval for a high-end beachfront apartment project at Tugun on the southern end of the Gold Coast.

The boutique midrise scheme would comprise nine apartments on a 760sq m site at 2 Dune Street and would replace a two-level 1970s-built block of flats.

It follows hot on the heels of Spyre’s award-winning Glasshouse at Burleigh Heads.

The developer said its latest project would “serve as a continuation in our endeavour to reshape coastal apartment living”.

“For Spyre, Tugun combines the promotion of truly aspirational design, with all the necessities of a day-to-day beachfront lifestyle. This is an incredibly exciting milestone for what is set to be a visionary development.”

The Cavill Architects-designed project at Tugun is for a nine-apartment complex, which comprises a mix of three and four-bedroom units across seven levels.

The project marks Spyre’s second collaboration with Cavill Architects, which it also tapped to design a 15-unit scheme for one of the last remaining riverfront blocks at Brisbane’s upmarket Bulimba.

“The design produced for Byron Street in Bulimba brought a unique presence to the suburb’s typical streetscape, and their proposal for Dune Street is no exception to their continual pursuit for excellence,” Spyre director Andrew Malouf said.

Malouf said there was a “synergy” between the developer and Cavill Architects, which it engaged to design both projects.

“To secure an architect of this calibre on a site of this stature is incredibly exciting for our team,” Malouf said.

The Bulimba design takes inspiration from the site’s industrial heritage, paying homage to the prominent shipyards that lined this stretch of the river’s edge throughout the 20th century.

The Dune Street project is slated to be launched to market this year.

The developer is also making headway on its Arc project at Toowong, which Graya is building. The 24-apartment project on Brisbane’s riverfront features 180-degree views of the river.
