The rise and rise of AI, and its impact on the property sector, will be in focus for New York-based futurist Nikki Greenberg, key-note speaker at The Urban Developer’s annual Urbanity conference on the Gold Coast.
Greenberg, who began her career in the sector in Australia, is now established on the global stage, exploring the convergence of artificial intelligence on property and the possibilities for cities.
Formerly the QIC head of technology for real estate, she has also worked with Lendlease, Brown Harris Stevens, Koichi Takada Architects and Greenland Australia.
The founder and global ambassador of Women in PropTech and former three-term co-chair of the Technology and Innovation Council for ULI in New York City will be key speaker on on July 30 at Urbanity, which will be staged at The Star on the Gold Coast.
Greenberg says the cities of tomorrow are being built today and that we need to look 50 years in to the future.
“I was educated and spent most of my property development career in Australia, predominantly in Sydney, working for different companies,” Greenberg said.
“One of the things I found is that our projects are really being shaped by the technologies that impact the way we live and work, and do everything in our lives.
“And yet we don’t talk about the disruptive change that technology actually brings in shaping buildings themselves.
“As they say, ‘form follows function’—we do everything online but our homes have not changed.
“So in the same way that we function in our everyday lives, future technologies whether it is robots, drones, flying cars or AI, the way we live in the future changes cities.”
Greenberg says AI will be used everyday from going to work to getting dinner and making the entire development process more effienct.
“My sweet spot is around the trends in technologies,” she says.
“Obviously with artificial intelligence coming into our everyday life, this is quite a groundbreaking technology.”
Urbanity 2024 is the sixth year for the three-day conference hosted by The Urban Developer and will this year feature more than 50 speakers, including Greenberg.
Being staged at The Star Gold Coast for the third time, the event is expected to attract more than 700 attendees from the property industry.
