Finbar’s Two-Tower Railway Parade Units on Track for Perth’s Leafy West
A $94-million two-tower apartment project by prominent Perth developer Finbar has been recommended for approval for a trackside site in the city’s exclusive western suburbs.
Finbar has proposed 19-storey and 18-storey towers with a combined 244 apartments for 236 Railway Parade, overlooking the Fremantle train line’s West Leederville station.
Designed by East Perth-based Chang Architects, the towers would have two ground-floor commercial tenancies totalling 210sq m of floor area and fronting Railway Parade.
If approved by Western Australia’s metro inner development assessment panel when it meets on August 13, the $94.2-million project would have three studio, 117 one-bedroom, 94 two-bedroom and 30 three-bedroom apartments.
Town of Cambridge planning and community services director Luke Gibson has recommended the towers be approved, subject to 55 conditions and 15 advice notes.
“The proposal will comprehensively redevelop a strategically located site directly opposite West Leederville train station,” Gibson’s 462-page report to the assesssment panel said.
Gibson said that, “on balance, the proposal represents an appropriate transit-oriented redevelopment”.
The towers are 32m apart, which Gibson deemed a “material positive feature”, as the separation exceeded the minimum requirement of 24m.
On the 5007sq m site would be 312 car bays and room for 275 bicycles.
During a four-week consultation period, 18 submissions were received, with three supporting and eight objecting to the towers. Seven submissions sought conditions or commented without stating a clear overall position.
