Brisbane City Council Seeks Partner for Chermside Aquatic Centre Redevelopment

Chermside Aquatic Centre hero

A search is under way for a development partner to deliver a multi-million-dollar upgrade of an aquatic centre in Brisbane’s northside in what is Australia’s “lifestyle capital.”

Brisbane City Council is seeking a long-term operator to design, build and operate the popular the Chermside Aquatic Centre.

The redevelopment is pitched as a community-shaping investment, with a specialist contractor expected to bring industry expertise to the renewal of one of Brisbane’s busiest leisure centres.

The successful proponent will enter a commercial arrangement with Council to deliver the project, then operate and maintain the facility under a long-term lease.

▲ The centre has recorded more than 863,000 visits in the past three years.

Council will also provide funding support for the redevelopment.

The vision for the site includes a 25m indoor heated program pool with ramp access and specialised equipment, a 50m outdoor heated pool with a moveable swim wall and upgraded waterplay areas, as well as new amenities, café and administration spaces.

The call for expressions of interest opened on August 18. The Brisbane City Council is planning to award the contract in the second half of 2026.

The revitalised centre will remain at its current site, neighbouring the Chermside Library, Kedron-Wavell Services Club and 7th Brigade Park.

Civic Cabinet chair of Community and the Arts Cr Vicki Howard said the upgrade reflected Council’s commitment to quality infrastructure.

“As Australia’s lifestyle capital, we’re committed to delivering world-class facilities,” Howard said. “This upgrade is part of our plan to invest in our suburbs and provide the infrastructure our growing city needs.”

Interested parties can register as a supplier and view current tenders to express their interest in the Chermside Aquatic Centre redevelopment.

Expressions of interest are open until October 17.
